Fair offers advice, help to Hispanics

He said that many Hispanics would like to serve on the police force but lack documented paperwork to serve.“I think eventually kids growing up in the schools will work their way into the system," Canez said.In addition to understanding police services, mastering English is vital for the Hispanic community, said advocates at the festival.Estelle Ryan Clavelli, associate director for community education at the University of Alabama Center for Community-based Partnerships, said that learning English is important for entire families – both children and adults.Clavelli said that the Center has an English language laboratory where residents who want to learn English may study, free of charge.

By working the body and mind, "you can do something to offset senior moments," he says.

Studies suggest that challenging your mind with crossword puzzles, memory tests and reading also may contribute to better brain function.

Mental calisthenics keep the brain stimulated and active.

"I usually tell people it's much better to read a book than to watch 'Gilligan's Island,'" Tune says.
